MVP Law marks 34 years of seminars, education in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – MVP Law received its largest turnout to-date at its 34th annual Kansas City Seminar last month, hosting 442 attendees at the Overland Park Convention Center.

The seminar encompassed 33 different sessions led by MVP attorneys on employment law, general liability, public sector law and workers’ compensation. In addition to the informational sessions, the seminar offered an opportunity for adjusters, attorneys, and members of the Society of Human Resource Management and the HR Certification Institute to earn continuing education (CEU) credits at sessions throughout the day.

The seminar explored a number of hot topics, including:

  • “Ethics of Medical Marijuana in the Workplace” (in light of changes to Missouri law that go into effect January 2020)
  • “Remote Workers”
  • “Employee First Amendment Expression in the Workplace”
  • “How to Investigate and Prove Fraud in Missouri Workers’ Compensation”
  • “Resignations, Terminations and Releases in Conjunction with Workers’ Compensation”

“Since our founding in 1901, we’ve been committed to the communities we serve through our legal practice. Our seminars allow us to connect with our clients while educating them on the latest changes in the law to help them make more informed decisions about what’s best for their company,” said MVP President and CEO Byron Bowles.

The firm also introduced a seminar app this year, which brings together electronic versions of seminar materials, additional information about speakers and the most up-to-date information about the seminar, including session topics, speakers and rooms. Through the app, attendees are now able to build their own agenda for the day and check into each session they attend while also allowing MVP to track CEU credits.

Since starting its Kansas City seminar in 1985, MVP has added two additional seminars throughout its Midwestern footprint, including St. Louis in 2000 and Des Moines in 2018. This year’s St. Louis Seminar takes place Sept. 19 at the Sheraton Westport Plaza Hotel, and the Des Moines Seminar takes place Oct. 3 at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel. Each will feature similar topics as the Kansas City seminar with an emphasis on regional law updates for Missouri and Illinois, and Iowa and Nebraska, respectively.
